ABSTRACT
The objective of this
paper is to show the teachers some common difficulties in using English
intonation pattern faced by the students of secondary vocational school of
tourism. These difficulties, then, need to be considered as the important
points in teaching conversation. A research has been conducted in SMK 2
Pariwisata Y.P HKBP Pematangsiantar by recording the second year students’
conversation when they were practicing productive course, i.e. hotel
reservation handling. It was found that the students have incorrect intonation
pattern in expressing positive statement, negation, questions, and request.
